Marquis Who’s Who has recognized Monica L. Reid, a seasoned advocate for social justice, for her extensive contributions to advocacy and public policy. With more than 18 years of professional experience, Ms. Reid is the director of advocacy and government affairs at the National Fair Housing Alliance (NFHA).
In her role at NFHA, Ms. Reid leads critical initiatives to advance equitable housing policies and establish compliance with the Fair Housing Act of 1968. Her work focuses on legislative advocacy and coalition building, aiming to address systemic discrimination and promote fair housing opportunities nationwide.
Previously, Ms. Reid spent nearly a decade as senior director of advocacy at the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. She spearheaded state-level criminal justice reform efforts there, including groundbreaking work on criminal discovery reform in Virginia.

Transformative achievements mark Ms. Reid’s career. At the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, her leadership on discovery reform brought Virginia’s laws closer to national standards, providing defense attorneys with critical access to information and securing fairer trial outcomes. This reform addressed longstanding inequities in the legal system, earning her widespread recognition among her peers.
“The work we’ve done to promote fair housing and improve access to justice is a testament to what’s possible when advocacy and policy intersect,” Ms. Reid explains. “Our goal has always been to create systems that uplift and empower marginalized communities.”
Ms. Reid’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in government and international politics and economics in 2006 and a Master of Public Administration in 2009 from George Mason University. She further honed her knowledge through executive education programs at the Yale School of Management and Virginia Commonwealth University’s Minority Political Leadership Institute.
Advocacy Beyond the Workplace
Ms. Reid’s dedication extends beyond her professional roles. She has held leadership positions on advisory boards and in civic organizations, including the Virginia African American Advisory Board and the Northern Virginia Coalition, where she worked to increase voter engagement and civic awareness in underserved communities.
Ms. Reid’s contributions to initiatives like ‘NOVA Votes 2012,’ a nonpartisan campaign to educate and mobilize Black voters, reflect her commitment to empowering marginalized populations.
Recognized for her leadership and impact, Ms. Reid has received numerous awards, including the Ebony Image Award for Government and Politics in 2020 and George Mason University’s Black Alumni Chapter Top 40 Under 40 Award in 2023.
