Joseph Ryan Smolarz, MD, MBA, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who’s Who, which recognizes his outstanding achievements as an otolaryngologist, businessman, investor and inventor.
Multifaceted Career Spanning Medicine and Business
Dr. Smolarz balances his time between working as a physician at his clinics in St. Thomas and St. Croix and managing various business ventures. He specializes in the ownership, construction and operation of assisted living and memory care facilities, while also maintaining expertise in e-commerce and medical devices.
“My diverse background allows me to approach health care and business from unique perspectives, leading to innovative solutions in both fields,” says Dr. Smolarz.
Entrepreneurial Spirit Drives Multiple Ventures
Since beginning his career in 2010 as a physician at Virgin Islands Ear, Nose and Throat, Dr. Smolarzhas expanded into numerous entrepreneurial roles. He founded Smell Again in 2017, became an assisted living facility administrator at Beehive Homes Assisted Living and began working as a financial trader for Dragon King Capital.
In 2018, Dr. Smolarz took on the role of storage specialist at Strategic Storage Investing. By 2021, he had further diversified his portfolio by becoming the chief executive officer of STOR Management and the blockchain lead for SToR Token. His most recent venture was founding Dr. Ryan’s in 2022.
“I believe in constantly pushing boundaries and exploring new opportunities. Each venture teaches me something valuable that I can apply across all my endeavors,” Dr. Smolarz explains.
Commitment to Education and Innovation
Dr. Smolarz’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in microbiology, a Doctor of Medicine and an Executive Master of Business Administration. He has also obtained several certifications, including a certificate in blockchain excellence from the Columbia Business School and various pilot certifications.
Dr. Smolarz’s inventive spirit is evident in his patents, including one for a formulation treating acid reflux and another for a wireless audio transmitter and receiver bone device using bone conduction.
“Education and innovation go hand in hand. I’m always seeking new knowledge and ways to apply it to solve real-world problems,“ states Dr. Smolarz.
Dr. Smolarz attributes his success to his supportive wife and his relentless drive and determination. Outside of his professional life, he considers raising his children his most fulfilling achievement.
