In the Logistics Performance Index, Georgia holds the 119th position. Compared to the previous years, Georgia’s position has improved by 11 points, however, its result is still one of the worst.
World Bank publishes the index ratings every two years. To calculate this year’s ratings, World Bank used the data from 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2017 and to create the final picture, attributed each year’s data with percentages: 2012 – 6,7%; 2014 – 13,3%; 2016 – 26,7%; 2017 – 53,3%.
With the average rate of 2012-2018, Georgia is number 124 in the world.
The index includes data for 167 countries of the world.
Since 2012, Georgia’s position in the rating has been continuously worsening. In 2012 the country held 77th position.
The Logistics Performance Index analyses the country data according to 6 criteria, attributing maximum 5 points to each. Georgia’s 2018 results in the rating are the following:
- Average points – 2.44 points
- Customs System – 2.42 points (compared to the previous year, improvement is 0.16 points)
- Infrastructure – 2.38 points (compared to the previous year, improvement is 0.21 points)
- International transportation – 2.38 points (compared to the previous year, improvement is 0.3 points)
- Logistical competitiveness – 2.26 points (compared to the previous year, improvement is 0.18 points)
- Road and freight surveillance – 2.26 points (compared to the previous year, worsening is 0.18 points)
- Service terms – 2.95 points (compared to the previous year, improvement is 0.15 points).
It is important to know, how the countries of the region are positioned in the above ratings: among the neighboring countries, Georgia is in the worst position: Armenia – 92nd position, Russia – 75th position and Turkey – 47th position (Azerbaijan is not included into the World Bank’s calculations). Georgia is ahead of Turkmenistan, which is in 126th position, however, the country is behind Kazakhstan, which holds the 71st position.
Generally speaking, the index calculates Georgia’s competitiveness in the transport corridor. In 2016, since the country held the 130th position in the ratings, representatives of the government have held meetings with the World Bank, to improve the country’s positions in the following years.
